Maximing Your Time

My birthday is just around the corner. And for the last several months, I’ve really struggled with deciding what to do for my birthday.

For years, I’ve always taken a major trip for my birthday. Part of me really wanted to do the same thing year. But, strangely enough, part of me didn’t.

SO, I toyed around with the idea of taking a smaller trip and then having a big birthday bash here in Chicago. That didn’t sit well with me either.

Then, I considered just doing a bunch of stuff throughout the month of September for me and friends. . . . I couldn’t figure that out either.

As you can see, I had an extremely hard time making up my mind. Being indecisive is not a characteristic that anyone would normally associate me with. But, for months, I felt extremely indecisive.

What I soon realized was that I was trying to force myself to make a decision about something that I really didn’t want to do. I was trying to force myself to make a decision to do things that I felt other people would expect for me to do – especially since this is my 40th birthday.

But, when I got still and blocked out all of the noise, what I really wanted to do was to maximize my time and resources.

What that means is that I wanted to make the most out of my time, my money, and my resources – doing things and having experiences over the course of the year that will truly make my heart happy!

What I really wanted was something fun and exciting to do every weekend. What this looked like for me was:

  • Going to festivals every weekend
  • Going to concerts to see artists that I truly enjoyed
  • Learning to twerk!
  • Taking an aerial yoga class
  • Discovering a new restaurant that serves amazing lamb chops
  • Having a goat yoga experience (google it!)

So while I am not doing a huge 40th birthday bash. I have learned to reconnect to who Sherica is and what Sherica really wants. And, that, my friends, is priceless.

Don’t get stuck doing what you’ve always done.

Don’t let other people’s expectations keep you from doing you.

And don’t feel any kind of way about none of it.

Instead, get crystal clear on what will make your soul happy and what makes your spirit happy. And do more of that!

~Sherica
